Women's Health
On October 28, 1999, Nina Molin, MD lit a candle to inaugurate the new women's health initiative at Lancaster Ayurveda Medical Center. "In lighting this candle we are bringing light to the field of women's health not only in Lancaster, but all over the world," Dr. Molin said to the audience of 40 women. "The success of the services at Lancaster will serve as a model for delivering effective but safe programs that utilize the body's own intelligence and self-repair mechanisms for women's unique health care needs."
The new program was structured by Medical Director, Jay Glaser, MD who has been providing women's health services at Lancaster for the past thirteen years as a part of his outpatient practice. "I felt there was a need for a Vedic Medicine service designed uniquely for women," said Dr. Glaser.
The new health services will be for outpatients and will address prevention, adaptation to life changes, and natural approaches to the most common women's health issues. The program will offer annual preventive exams, treatment of disorders, and rejuvenation techniques delivered by an experienced practitioner with a specific interest in women's disorders.
Dr. Glaser plans to make this program distinctive by offering compassionate interviews and examinations in an unhurried setting where careful listening is coupled with clear explanations of the different treatment and preventive alternatives including, most importantly, natural alternatives from Vedic Medicine.
The structure and environment of the Women's Vedic Health Services will be different from other settings, where the physician usually walks into a small cubicle and finds the patient installed for examination. In the Lancaster program the consultation begins with an interview in a dignified setting where the physician takes an extended history to gain complete knowledge of the woman, including her stresses and responsibilities. Following the examination, the physician and patient return to the consultation room for pulse diagnosis.
After the diagnosis and recommendations are carefully explained and written for the client, she meets with a trained Vedic patient educator who helps her understand the recommendations and how they can be implemented easily in her daily life. Women who receive care under this program will benefit from the competent specialists and laboratories who have been working with Dr. Glaser over the past 14 years.
Dr. Glaser commented, "I am certain this program will be appreciated because my 12 years of experience at Lancaster have proven to me and my patients that these simple guidelines for monthly routines, pregnancy, and peri-menopausal imbalances really work. Now these same programs will be offered by women physicians whose sole interest is women's health care."
