Stress
A 44 year old nightclub events promoter came to Lancaster for an in-residence stay complaining of inability to lead a healthy lifestyle. Because of the stressful nature of his work, he had begun smoking four years previously. He had sugar cravings and could not stop himself from eating, especially carbohydrates even when he was not hungry. He described himself as having only glimpses of happiness despite his success. He wanted to "clean up my lifestyle and improve my health so I can live the second half of my life in a more respectful way with more courtesy to my body, mind and spirit. On examination he appeared pale, fatigued, and had poor muscular tone. One year following his initial evaluation, the patient had made a complete transformation in his physiology. He had lost over twenty pounds, and explained that he felt no cravings for food, cigarettes or alcohol. He had a more solid physique and was able to keep up with his young children, taking them on frequent outings.
