Chronic stiffness and swelling from foot trauma
A 42 year old teacher fell backward over a retaining wall of a swimming pool while supervising children. She sustained severe soft tissue trauma to the ankle and foot with contusions, avulsions of ligaments and tendons and internal bleeding. Eight months later the ankle and foot were still swollen, stiff and painful and she was not able to bear weight or wear her usual footwear. Her doctors told her that it was unrealistic for her to expect further improvement, and she should learn to live with the disability. She came to Lancaster and began a two week program including padadhara (pouring of intensely herbalized oils over the involved limbs) and other herbal programs. After two weeks she was fully ambulatory and there was no residual pain.
